All materials are included and there'll be a glass of mulled wine/non alcoholic alternative and festive nibbles and its a workshop for up to 6 people for a really cosy, fun and crafty christmassy evening. So come and get in the Spirit of Christmas and take home a beautiful centrepiece for your home.
Mistletoe Kissing Balls are more ancient than the Christmas tree and gave license to any man or boy to kiss the maid of his choice who he found standing under it! From the earliest times mistletoe has been one of the most magical, mysterious, and sacred plants of European folklore. It was considered to bestow life and fertility, a protection against poison, and an aphrodisiac!
In this two and a half hour workshop, you will be guided by Sarah to construct a wire sphere (approximately 25cm in height) that you can then decorate with twine or ribbon and bedeck with festive foliage that are all supplied, not forgetting the most important element - a sprig or two of mistletoe! These kissing balls make a lovely feature to hang in your home or doorway or a unique present for family or friends and you'll have had fun making them. The workshops are open to all whether you're a crafty afficionado or a beginner. Sarah has a friendly and open approach to art and although an accomplished and signficant artist in North Devon herself she believes that everyone has creative talent and that art and craft should be accessible to all. You'll find her inspiring and encouraging and she'll help you make something you'll be proud of. A great way to get in the festive spirit with friends or as a way to make new ones. This workshop will be in an authentic Devon stone wash house with a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 6 so you'll need to book early to secure your place.
I've been going to Sarah's art club for ages now and love it. I made a kissingball too with her last year which adorned my dining room almost all year I loved it so much. Her Washhouse Studio is a perfect location, tiny, but full of charm and character as well as a smokey wood burner to keep you all toasty. Sarah makes art and craft joyful and something that belongs to us all - as well as great mulled wine! I can't wait to make another Kissing Ball which I hope to put to good use this Christmas!
